Hello all!!!I can’t believe it’s already December, time just flies by =) It doesn’t feel like Christmas is coming up! The weather here has been so up and down…it was really cold on Monday and then yesterday it was super hot b/c we had a santa ana (the dry hot wind that goes through southern cal and baja cali….causes all the fires). But a lot of ppl are into decorating their homes so it’s been more festive recently.
Well I know I’ve been updating you guys on myself and the different events we’ve had but I haven’t mentioned anything regarding Genesis yet (at least Í don’t think I have)….and there’s a LOT going on with Genesis right now so just warning you in advance this email might get very long =) I know you all love my looong emails heheheheh!
Well up until now Genesis hasn’t had any permanent land, we’ve been using/borrowing different sites throughout the years for our spring/summer programs and it’s been great so far. Genesis has been praying for their own land for about 4 years now…….and recently that’s become more urgent. Right before I arrived in Oct. one of the land lords who’s allowed us to use their land for our programs notified Genesis saying they’ll be needing that land very soon…….meaning we won’t have a place to run our camp. So we’ve been looking looking looking and we found a couple potential sites, but some of those doors closed this week. However there is one site that we’re very hopeful about. Evangelina, the main cook for all our events has a brother who owns a ton of land further down south. He’s a loving man of God, and he has an amazing story….but anyways we set up a meeting to go see the land and talk with Evangelina’s brother and I was so blown away by what he shared with us. I didn’t go to the actual meeting but they told me all about it.
Two of his sons died many years ago and through that, he and his wife came to know Christ. Ever since then his goal in life was to glorify and honor God will all things and to serve people. So meeting with him he shared that he really wanted to help Genesis, knowing we really wanted and needed our own land. He didn’t want to sell his land to us though, not because he didn’t want us to have our own land but because he felt that selling it and making profit wouldn’t really be helping us. He has been blessed with a lot of land, and he recognized that God gave him the land…it wasn’t rightfully his to begin with so he wanted to share that with others and serve God as well. He wanted to really help Genesis with no strings attached and with no personal benefit for himself so he offered it to us to use as we please for free….FOREVER. We all believe that this is from God…Genesis has known Evangelina for 6-7 years now and for the past 4 years they’ve dedicated a lot of time searching for land and she knew about it too. We don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s all happening now, it was all in God’s timing. Many times in the past Genesis thought it was the right time to get land and they were so sure that it would happen but that’s not what God had planned.
The land itself is very rugged and it needs a lot of work, but Evangelina’s brother has all the machines on site to level the ground and prepare it for our camps. It’s way up in the mountains down a loooong 8-10 mile dirt road but they told me the place is just beautiful. I can’t wait to go see it myself, it’s about 20-30 mins from our current ranch right now and you can see the entire city and the ocean as well. We all hope and pray that this is going to be it. The man’s wife had a vision for that particular piece of land, and while she was sharing they realized it’s the exact same vision Genesis has. God is definitely at work here, and I’m really excited to see how everything is going to play out.
Also Genesis has 3 disabled children under our care. They all need one on one attention so we have 3 different caretakers watching them 24/7. Last weekend one of the caretakers daughters was killed in a shooting accident while on her way into a small grocery store. She was my age 25 and she had two kids, a 4 year old girl and a baby boy just a couple months old. It’s been very difficult for their family so please keep them in your prayers, they have a lot going on and they also need to watch over Margarita…one of our disabled kids. Well that’s just a little piece of all that’s been going on in Baja Cali. The violence has been really bad with the wars between drug cartels, and its gotten to the point where the police and government officials started turning to the churches for help. They realized they needed more manpower and they needed prayer to help the current situation. The attacks have been random, on innocent people for no particular reason. ‘The violence has mainly been in Tijuana b/c it’s near the border but there have been a few breakouts here in Ensenada as well. With all the churches, government officials and police uniting to fight this crime I’m eager to see how God’s going to work in Baja Cali. (No worries I am perfectly safe here in the city, violence and crime exists everywhere.)
There’s more to share to but this email is getting too long so I’ll end with some personal prayer requests.
1. I’m leaving for Korea this Monday and I’m staying there for 3 weeks. I’m excited to be spending Christmas and New Years in the motherland! Please pray for safe travels and also that I wouldn’t lose sight of my purpose/mission here in Mexico.
2. I need to spend MORE time praying.
3. I have all the signs and symptoms of arthritis in my hands. Please pray for relief! It’s been hard to lift/pick things up that don’t fit in my hands. That is all! If I don’t email again, I hope you all have a wonderful, wonderful Christmas! God bless, ciao.
