Eunice New Years Update

It’s a little late but Happy New Year my dear friends!!!!!!

I’m really excited to see what this year is going to mount up to….I’ve already had a very good start =) I have a lot to share so this will be another looooong email hahahah~

I went to Korea for 3 weeks over the holidays. I spent two weeks with my parents and one week by myself. It was really good to see my parents again and to visit all my relatives in the motherland. I had a ton of fun, and ate a lot of really really good food. My time there went by really fast, I wish I could have stayed longer but it also feels good to be back at home in Mexico. Here are the links for the pics I took in Korea. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2191490&l=28168&id=15615535 And http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2191496&l=88dbf&id=15615535

I came home on Jan 5th and as soon as I came back from Korea I had a big event to prepare for so I was super super busy. We invited about 85 migrant families to come and take part in our El Día de los Reyes – Kings Day event. Here in Mexico, Kings Day is where they clebrate the day the kings came to visit baby Jesus which is a couple days after the birth of Jesus. They give gifts and eat this special cake Rosca that has little plastic baby Jesus’ baked into the cake. Everyone has to cut their own piece and whoever finds the first Jesus has to host a party at their house with tamales sometime in February. We had the event on Sunday Jan 11th so that all the migrants could come and take part in the event because they work Mon – Sat. We specifically invited the families that were a part of the “send a migrant kid to school” program and our “into school” program. Many migrant kids can’t go to school because their parents don’t have the money to get a birth cirtificate for them and they can’t afford the clothes and supplies needed and without those things they can’t attend school. (more info on this newsletter… http://www.genesisdiez.org/assets/files/newsletters/2008%20July%20Newsletter.pdf )

So for the event we had roughly 50-60 adults and 200-250 childen. I was in charge of collecting all the toys and clothes and counting all of them. We were extremely blessed and had exactly 855 toys for the childen and 25 bags of clothing for the older kids and the parents. We had the event at a church close to our ranch in Maneadero, the pastor was very kind to let us use their facilities. We fed everybody, another church came and put on a special skit/play for everyone regarding the story of the kings/wise men and baby Jesus, and then we organized all the families to come in and get their gifts. They all left very, very happy because they got a lot of toys and clothes. Majority of the toys and clothes were used, but with the migrants being so poor they were sooooo appreciative and exciited to receive them. I’ll include some pictures of what the office looked like…it was total chaos with toys EVERYWHERE hahahahahah!

On Friday we were invited to an event in Tijuana that Burger King sponsored so me, Greg, Hapa and Gaby drove up to Tijuana to just sit through the event. They had a bunch of different entertainers up there for 10 different orphanages. There were about 200-250 kids there. So Friday I had like half the day off, we just relaxed and watched the kids enjoy the entertainment. We went around and chatted with the different directors of the orphanages, we knew majority of them because they’ve come to our ranch for our summer program. So it was nice to see the niños again, and omg the magic show they had was SO FUN! It started right when we were about to leave so I only watched like 5 mins of it but it was so interesting.

Our next BIG event is the 3rd annual GIOF Gala on February 21st 09 at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse in San Diego. This event is to raise support for GIOF which is the US nonprofit that supports Genesis Diez. It’s through GIOF that I receive support from you guys =) We don’t have all the details set yet but I know that there will be FABULOUS entertainment….the staff here shared with me that in the past the entertainment they hired was fantastic. There will be dinner and an auction, similar to any other gala to raise funds and so I’m going to be helping to prep for this big event! I haven’t started any work on the gala yet but I know I will be very soon and I’m excited.

Right now I’m working on clearing out our office and the backyard. We won’t be receiving a lot of donations from now until April-ish so we’re giving away the donations we currently have to clear the space. We did receive a BIG donation from a church that’s new to us, they found us on the web and brought down two truckloads of clothes, toys and food so I’m sorting through that now to give away to orphanages and migrant families.

I think that’s about it……well I have a request/favor to ask of you all. I have a list of donations that I need so that I don’t have to spend too much money purchasing these things. If anyone is willing to donate them to me please email me! It doesn’t matter if they’re used or old I’ll take it as long as it works!
1. Power outlet strip cord thingy….I have only two outlets in my room so having one will make life a lot easier, and for some reason they’re not easy to find here.
2. Desk lamp that’s thin….or doesn’t take up too much space. The one i have right now was donated and it’s HUGE…takes up too much space on my desk
3. Thin metal coat hangers. With Steph coming soon we have to share one closet and right now it’s full of all my clothes. It’s partly because my hangers are thick plastic so they take up more space.
And these things are only if you’re willing..i know shipping is expensive but you’ll still be shipping within the US to California.

And finally my prayer requests:
1. I need to work harder on my relationship with God with bible study/qts/praying etc…
2. That I reach my minimum goal for my support, and that I not worry about it but have some more faith
3. my church situation has been a little iffy…..I’m not too crazy about the english service here in the city so once Stephanie comes we might try some other churches….but they’ll all be in spanish. So yeah I feel stuck. I don’t know how to resolve this problem so I just need to pray through it.
4. Safe travels for Stephanie, she’s coming on the 31st!!! I’m very excited =)~
5. The gala event on Feb 21st, that all will go well with the planning up until then and for the gala itself to go smoothly.
6. That all will work out with our land

OH and I got a free phone you guys!!!! One of the ladies here went to go buy a new cell phone and it came with another one for free so she gave that to me! They put minutes in it and everything….I’m really glad I have a cell now b/c I knew I needed one for emergencies and stuff….all of our cars are very old and they’ve been breaking down on the street. I dunno WHAT I would do if that happened to me and I was phoneless. I’m still not fluent in español so I’m really happy that I finally got a cell phone.

Well that is ALL! I hope you all are doing well, keep me updated with anything new going on in your lives please! I miss you and love you all~ ciao!
