Hello yall!
I don’t think I’ll be doing any of the fancy emails anymore…..unless someone super insists that I keep at it. But anyways, wow so much has happened over the past month I don’t know where to begin. We’ve had 2 amigo groups come down over the past month. We were supposed to have at least 4 but two of them cancelled b/c they were afraid of the “violence” here in mx. We’ve had a total of 11 groups cancel b/c of the violence and we’re expecting more cancellations. Regardless of that…we trust and know that God has a plan. We’re still going to have kids on-site even if we don’t have an amigo group for them. Genesis will have to fund all the orphanages without amigos so financially we’re running tight. There’s a lot to pray about regarding this so please keep us in prayer!
The first group that came down was a church from Oregon and we had no ninos on site. They worked with migrants kids in a nearby community so we went to them and held all of our activities there. That week was very chill b/c we didn’t have any kids on site so it was somewhat relaxing for the staff here. It was FREEZING at the ranch that week every single night….to the point where I just wanted to cry. I didn’t want to change in or out of my clothes b/c it was so cold and windy. But in terms of activities, we ran it the same way we would have run any normal camp on site at our ranch. We rotated between 5 different stations: bible story, crafts, music and memory verse, leadership games and sports. We had roughly 100 kids every day that week, it was a lot of fun.
We had another church The Good Shepherd this past week from Nevado California, and we had our first nino group, Lily of the Valley orphanage on site with us this spring. This was the Good Shepherd’s first time with us so it was really encouraging to see them take a step of faith and come down amidst all the violence rumors and without knowing what to expect either. They were a really good group, given the fact that it was their first time with us. The ninos from lily of the valley were precious, they all definitely know a LOT about the bible and they’re all so well behaved. They’re the only orphanage that comes to the ranch twice a year….they always come in the spring and in the summer so we’ll be seeing those kids again very soon.
So it’s been very busy here, prepping for the ranch and getting all the activities ready it’s been go go go for awhile now so I’m looking forward to a little down time. This week is going to be a little more chill, just cleaning up all the activity boxes from last week and sorting through more donations and other work around the office.
It’s now been 6 months since I’ve come to mx and so I’m definitely a lot more comfortable with where I’m at. In terms of ministry, it’s been a little difficult getting along with a couple people here. We work together all the time and see each other very often so I’m not surprised that our differences have come up. I’ve been able to work out the miscommunications and all with those people so far but if yall could really keep the genesis staff in prayer regarding our relationships….that we would all just be sensitive and loving towards one another and that we wouldn’t let grudges or differences get in the way and bring about separation. That’s not just for me it’s for other people here as well. OH YEAh and recently we just had 2 new missionaries come on board with us. First is a guy named Alejandro, he’s 20 years old and from Acapulco mx. He used to be with Tres Cruces, and helped us out with a couple of our short events and loved it so he came on board. He’s really great with kids, and it helps that he’s bilingual so he’s been a real blessing to us so far. He’s living at the ranch along with Hapa right now doing some construction work there, but he also helps us with the programming. The other guy is Mark, he’s 30 something and he hasn’t started yet but he will be very soon. He’ll be living at the ranch as well in his own trailer, and as of now I’m not quite sure what he’s going to be doing. He has another ministry he’s very involved in and so he’s going to be doing that as well as helping out with Genesis too. So yeah our team is definitely growing!
Oh yes and I’ve finally decided to visit home. yay! I’ll be in Va from May 2nd – May 9th. I hope I’ll be able to meet up with a good amount of u guys! I think it’ll be a really good break for me to visit home and get away from the ministry here for a short while.
Ok so my prayer requests are
1. That I not depend so much on what others can do for me. I need to rely more on God.
2. That I keep up my diet and exercise.
3. A safe and fulfilling trip home.
4. That I’ll be able to get a decent mattress, my back has been hurting a lot b/c I have a bad bed.
5. For steph and amanda, they both have a lot of trouble sleeping and with the work we do we need a good nights sleep which has been difficult for them. Steph’s is recent, amanda’s had this problem over the past year. That’s all you guys! Miss u, see yall in 2 weeks! Ciao~
