Hey everyone!
WOW this month has just flown by….so many things to share because I’ve had so many things going on! The past two weekends we’ve had groups come in to work with the migrants. The first group, FUEL came from Fullerton, California and they stayed for a day doing activities with the migrant kids nearby our ranch. This past weekend we had Bethany down again from Long Beach California. Bethany had their jr high students running a carnival for the migrant kids, they also had a group of men to work on multiple construction projects, and also a dentist to work on teeth and a team of nurses for medical. Everybody from Bethany and Fuel did a phenomenal job and we were all so blessed to have them =)
Amidst all of that, we still had our after school program in Durango and we FINALLY started moving into the new office. The plan was for me and steph to move in last week so we could take time to get settled in, and this Tues the rest of the office was going to move in. Well none of that worked out with all the different things going on so me and Steph just moved into the office Mon and on Tues we moved over majority of the office. We’re still working on the little bits and ends, but we’re all moved in for the most part. This new office is such a blessing, it is SO much bigger, much more functional and the rent is cheaper too.
I have sad news to share, one of our disabled children Margarita just passed away on Sunday. As sad as it is, we’re all very happy that she’s not suffering and in pain anymore. She suffered a GREAT deal and over the past few months her condition just kept on worsening. We all think she had Huntington’s, her brain was slowly dying so her other organs started shutting down as well. She’s now in heaven with God and her younger sister Maria who passed away 2 years ago from the same thing. Please keep her caretaker Loy and her family in your prayers, Margarita was like another daughter/sister to them.
On a brighter note, I have FINALLY made a decision regarding my future =) I have decided to commit another year here with Genesis! I’m very excited that I’ll be staying longer, which is funny b/c my initial fear with committing a year here was that I’d fall in love with Mexico/genesis/the niños and commit another year. It won’t be a full year though, my commitment is from Feb to Nov 2010. I’ll be coming home on Nov 23rd, (WHOO HOO!!) and I will be staying up until the end of Jan and coming back to Mexico Feb 1st. I’m definitely in need of a long vacation, and I plan on working as well at my mom’s Kumon centers.
Thank you guys for all your love and support over this past year! It’s been a wonderful year, and I’m really excited to be coming back to serve again. Alejandro has committed another year here as well, and we’re all very happy with that. Steph has decided that she will be returning to Long Beach in Dec. We all agree that it’s best for her to return home, she was homesick the entire year and super affected by being away from her family. Our future decisions were all made prayerfully, and it’s so obvious to me that we all made the right decisions. It’s going to be really sad for me to say bye to Steph and it’s going to be really different not having her here, but I know I can’t base my decision on staying or leaving on her decision. Things will be different for me next year though since I am much more familiar with Ensenada and this area in general, I don’t think I’ll go through that depression again. Steph promised though that she’ll be down to visit frequently, since she does live very close by. =)
I’ll end with some prayer requests:
1. That I continually keep my focus on God, and not ever forget my purpose for being here.
2. Our BIG fiesta tomorrow, it’s Genesis 10th year anniversary! That all would go smoothly and that we would be thankful for all of our blessings.
3. For my time back at home, that I won’t grow lazy or get TOO comfortable.That’s it you guys! Love you all, can’t wait to see you guys in November!!!! Ciao~
